Taken from her home in the Midwest to a nondescript housing development in California after her parent's separation, Lorett, an eleven-year-old girl becomes obsessed with the red fallen leaves of her former life. One day on her way to school she appears to enter another dimension and learns a puzzling but meaningful secret about the nature of "home".
